Jazzy Jeff is coming to Bristol!

4 May

Hey everyone!

I met a Narwhal the other day and she told me that Jazzy Jeff is in town. I didn’t believe her but she was totally serious and had this flyer stuck on her crazy “Unicorn” horn as you can see from this picture that total happened.

JAZZYJEFF YAY

He is in fact playing at Lakota on Thursday 10th of May in the sexy Bristol, and its going to be sick! He’s up there for me as one of the best cut and scratch artists along with DJ Grandmaster Flash, Mix Master Mike & Qbert. So if you’re free and fancy throwing some shapes to some no doubt classic hip hop go and grab yourself a ticket and I’ll see ya there!

iPhone app – Picle

15 Mar

If you’re a fan of Instagram, Lightbox or even just snapping pics on your phone like I am then this may be of interest. In a nutshell this new app called Picle lets you capture soundbites as you take a photo to create a much more rich experience when viewing back images. You can also create storyboards within the app which plays through the images and audio + looks quite awesome too.

Picle
At the moment it’s only on iOS but hopefully it will be out for Android and Window mobile devices soon. So if you have the hardware head over to the app store and give it a try.

PROMETHEUS

Ridley Scott is back. The legend behind Alien and Blade Runner returns to the genre he helped define with Prometheus. A team discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a trip to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Originally the rumours had Ridley Scott working on an Alien prequel, however Prometheus is its own film, although it does appear to be set in the Alien world or he could just really dig that style. I’ll let you decide.

LET ME GOOGLE THAT FOR YOU

This week I bring you one sarcastic site after having the pleasure of being on the receiving end of it (rightfully so I may add). I’m sure we’ve all been asked something where the only logical answer isn’t the answer to the question but “Google it”. Now you can go one step further and deliver some awesome sarcasm with this site that even shows you how to use Google!

Let me GOOGLE that for you

STONE SOUR – WICKED GAME

This week I’ve mostly been listening to bands like System of a down, Korn, and Slipknot. Which lead me to discover that the lead singer of Slipknot Corey Taylor (yes they have a lead singer!) started a side project called Stone Sour. They have a sound that is a lot more mellow which is all good by me as his voice is amazing, one track in particular that needs to be shared is their Wicked Game cover. It’s not on sound cloud so please use this link to listen on Youtube.

STASIS (PC)

After taking many arrows to the knee in Skyrim over the holidays I stumbled upon this little gem called Stasis which is an indie developed space adventure game! Too much awesome I know. The trailer sets a nice dark tone and clearly is influenced by Alien in style and trailer direction. It’s a WIP at the moment but one to watch and hopefully this will come out sometime in 2012.

Got CPU Cooler?!

9 Dec

Today a shadow was cased across the desk’s in the Doner BOA office. I thought it was the 2012 apocalypse come early, but in fact it was just the biggest CPU cooler I’ve ever seen… Can’t wait how to see how much noise the twin fans on this bad-boy makes next week.

…Seriously.. it’s bigger than the PSU!

THE RAID

The Raid is an Indonesian film, and I’ve always loved action films that come from that part of the world, stuff like Ong Bak is amazing and really launched Tony Jaa up there with Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan. This film however is far more gritty and really is not shy for some full on violence as seen in this trailer! The premise is a tower block that houses some of the most untouchable criminals and the police have always failed to enter. So cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it.. and well it doesn’t go too smoothly! The film’s score is produced by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park, and sounds amazing! So if you’re after a crazy action flick then try and source this out (Won’t get a cinema release)

27b/6

This site is legendary, I’ve been reading it for years then one day I lost the bookmark.. due to its name I couldn’t for the life of me remember it, but as Doner is full of awesome people it wasn’t to long before a link to a “must read article” came down the wire.  The site is basically the crazy tails of David Thorne, who i admire still to this day for trying to pay an overdue bill with a drawing of a seven-legged spider… After being refused he asked that the picture was emailed back to him. Grab a coffee and have a read for yourself:

FOE – A Handsome Stranger Called Death (Com Truise RMX)

I love synth. This probably stems back from being brought up on epic electro music and scores from films like Blade Runner, the dark lonely sounds really appeal to me and spark the creative craziness that is my mind. Recently I’ve gotten back into a genre known as Synthwave, and one particular artist and RMX DJ has caught me this week; Com Truise. This particular track is a remix of a FOE track and is just amazing. The bass, epic lyrics and 80’s synth work perfectly together and really sound amazing played loud!

Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim (PC, PS3, 360)

The elder scrolls series is a long one and a much loved one by many fans world wide. When the 5th instalment was announced the anticipation for this game was huge!  After a long series of Skyrim teasers, interviews and videos over the internet the wait is nearly over, with a release date of 11.11.11 it is just around the corner! I was lucky enough to get one of the first hands on at the Eurogamer expo last month, you can read my short experience here. I will be picking this up on the PC for the xmas holidays, but having played it they have really streamlined the more suited PC gameplay for consoles now. With a slick GUI and menu system and easily manageable combat system. Check the video below for some dragon awesomeness!

DRIVE

I came across this trailer by randomly seeing an ad at the bottom of MSN Messenger! Totally glad I clicked as this film looks amazing. Think the transporter but with a deeper, gritty storyline… so actually good. what’s more is I’m totally loving the movie poster for this, the subtle dirty dancing font mixed with the stylised photography works so damn well. The trailer below is 18 cert like the film so if violence in a lock stock kind of way isn’t your cup of tea, skip this one.

Pronunciation Manual via Youtube

Not a site as such, although I’m sure I have seen a blog with all their videos… but i digress. This channel on YouTube deserves some attention parodying the educational Pronunciation Book’s channel with there own way of pronouncing words… I have to say I’m learning loads!!

View all their videos here

THE DRUMS – MONEY

I’m a little obsessed with the Drums at the moment, in particular this track below. I’ve had it on loop for 2 months now and I still love it, just like their past tracks it has a proper indie hipster video which is all good by me! Oh and they’re paying at the O2 Bristol in December, I’ve just grabbed a pair of tickets, who’s coming!!

DIABLO III (PC)

The Diablo series is a much loved and highly regarded among PC gamers as a classic one, so the announcement of a new instalment was hugely welcomed. 200 years and delays later and some beta footage as been released upon the internet for us to love due to how it still looks like very true to Diablo 1 and 2, but then we all cry at the forever changing release date again. sob.
