GoPro – Shark Riders

24 May

So I’m am massive fan of GoPro. I’m always keen to see what new creative ways they are advertising themselves. They have done it perfectly in my opinion.

If you haven’t seen/heard of them before then you are missing out. No doubt you have probably already watched something filmed on them without realising. Here is their kind of showreel. And here is their Vimeo channel.

They are pioneers of extreme sports videography. Always showing off new sports and ideas (like sending a toy robot into space… well the outer atmosphere). Oh and every video has an awesome soundtrack!

Anyway, I get sent their weekly emails (doesn’t work in Hotmail though… maybe someone should see if they need a new advertising agency for their eCRM, maybe Doner?), with latest videos! And yesterday they sent a video close to my heart, diving!

This is beautifully filmed, has free diving, shipwrecks, sharks (and not just any old shark, a Tiger Shark) , and a stunning Italian Model that looks like Lara Croft underwater with her fancy leg propeller things… What more can you ask for!

But on another note, they shouldn’t be touching (let alone riding) sharks. This is bad. I will end my rant here otherwise I’ll go off on one!

Enjoy!

Snow movie of the season?

20 Apr

So I seem to be following Hannah posts with follow ups lately… but Hannah has kindly reminded me from her last post about the movie All.I.Can.

This an incredible movie, beautiful cinematography and great overall moral behind the story. Plus insane skiing. If you haven’t seen it, you must.

I also went skiing this year, drove 800 miles down to Meribel, with 5 people in the car, a boot full, a roofbox and the whole journey in monkey suits. Yes we turned a few heads! All because of two reasons. We had a friend doing a season there (no biggy…), but mainly because we watched the following movie (as well as All.I.Can)…

The Art of Flight

This has got to be the greatest snow movie of all time! This follows the story of a group of snowboarders, travelling the world to find the most inhospitable places to ski (e.g. Patagonia), all sponsored by, yes you guessed it, Red Bull. The cinematography in this movie is incredible, uses very subtle yet very effective title effects and awesome soundtrack and basically pure HD goodness! Oh and the Red Bull copter pilot isn’t too bad at flying either.

Just watch the first chapter… you wont stop watching it.

I must have watched this 10-20 times before going skiing. Watching it made me feel like superman, I felt I could do it too! I was kinda wrong. Though I did land a roof drop and managed the snow park without injury!

The holiday ended with a failed roof drop onto head, one double ejection on my part, a huge collision between two of us, oh and a dislocated shoulder on my girlfriends part!

BTW here’s proof of the monkey suits!

Stunning Cinemagraphs #2

Last week Hannah posted a blog post about animated images.

Well now you can do the same with an app.

Its called Flixel. It takes a short snippet of film, and then allows you to select areas of the image to animate, as well as the start and stop frames. Its quite hard to get pefect, and I think a tripod is need to make the ideal animation, but some of the results are beautiful!

Only on the iPhone for now I’m affraid! Enjoy!

New office dog?

11 Apr

As well as our resident office dog Harley, I put forward a petition for a new friend for him.

Meet Boo.

He’s no ordinary dog. As Mr Chapman puts it – “It’s not a dog. Its a magical bear…”

I’m not usually one for small/toy dogs, I think a dog can only be classed as a dog if its a tall as my waist, but you cant deny this dog looks cool! Plus he’s got more outfits than Becks and better shaving skills than Matt.

The guy even has his own website.

In fact Boo is just a rat, no sorry that’s wrong, he’s a Pomeranian (I’m sure they are lovely dogs…).

Here are his best bits, and here he is falling asleep.

Dont deny it, he would make an ideal office dog! Becks has even said she will look after him outside the office, well that was the impression I got when I showed her Boo last week!

Some beautiful imagery… #5

There seems to be a reoccurring theme with my beautiful imagery series of extreme sports. I don’t know why it is but all i know is that my list of things to do keeps getting longer… it now includes sky diving (but only if i look like this in the sky, in slow motion that is!)

Video was shot to advertise Melbourne Sky Dive Centre, once again with a GoPro camera! If you haven’t seen these amazing little cameras then check out the GoPro Vimeo Channel, its full of incredible videos.

Ok so I wouldn’t call this beautiful imagery but it is very cool indeed! Video has been around for quite some time, like 3 years or so, but for those who haven’t seen it, you must!

With this video, I also lay down a challenge for Mr Barrie Reader (our resident long boarder) to match this video? I know I cant do it (Barrie can vouch for that by my attempt at long boarding with him one time last summer), and Neil has two left feet so that just isn’t going to happen!

What do we need? Barrie. Check. Long Board. Check. Big hill (Brass Knocker Hill, Bath, not very long but very steep). Check. Just need some GoPro cameras and we are ready to go…

To follow on with my beautiful imagery series, I have found this video.

All about his life on the waves, and as one person commented it’s “Poetry in Motion”. Never surfed myself, but this kinda’ makes me want to go now (preferably with a 7mm wetsuit and a good pair of booties). Maybe this summer? Abroad in 30+ degree water. Enjoy!

Seeing as Phil has started his own ‘Awesome Stuff” post I thought I might start my own ‘Beautiful Imagery’ series! So here’s part deux…

Found this video the other day and thought I would share. Filmed at Jackson Hole in the Grand Teton National Park, using a DSLR and Tilt Shift Photography!

Oh and great use of an (subtly remixed) old Pink Floyd classic. Enjoy!

Some beautiful imagery…

12 Apr

This piece of footage has been around for a few month’s now but thought i would share it for those who haven’t seen it!

Was shot at Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas, the hole plummets 202 metres down and is the largest known blue hole in the world. Sadly not shot on a single breath as this is near enough impossible, but still it’s definitely some incredible videography! Enjoy!

Mobile Marketing

11 Apr
For those who are either constantly using their mobiles or not (i.e Helen, who is still using a Nokia 3410), here are some stats on the world of mobile marketing and how we go about using our phones. Quite scary really!
